Shipping - Information and Estimates
All purchases are pre-orders; you will receive your items at a later date (as of now, this is estimated as Dec 2025).
Due to fluctuating global shipping rates, we will be charging shipping fees at a later date from your initial pre-order. You will be sent an email (at the email address you pre-order with) a few days prior to confirm this additional charge.
We will be working with a third party fulfillment company to handle warehousing, shipping, and all other fulfillment needs. By using a third party fulfillment company, we can better localize fulfillment globally and decrease shipping prices for everyone. When we charge for shipping and handling, we charge it at cost, and do not make any profit on these fees.
Below is a list of estimated shipping costs. Shipping costs can vary greatly based on the specifics of your address, pledge level, and add-ons, as well as the final page count and weight of the finished books, so do remember that these are rough estimates.
While we are working with our fulfillment partner to keep shipping costs as low as possible, over the last few years shipping has greatly increased in price. These estimated rates are based on the best information and the latest quotes from our fulfillment partner, but keep in mind that rates can fluctuate and may adjust before we are able to lock in orders.
If you are concerned about shipping prices, or live in a location we are unable to ship to, please consider choosing digital products, as PDF and digital files can be delivered for free worldwide. Digital rewards will be fulfilled through DriveThruRPG.

Restrictions
IMPORTANT: We are unable to ship to: Russia, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Iraq, Syria, South and Central America.
Due to high rates of packages going missing in some countries, we will not re-send games if they go missing to the following countries: Pakistan and Nigeria.
Israel may have additional fees due to dangerous handling being imposed by couriers to the region.

VAT/Sales Tax
We are currently charging VAT/sales tax for most of the common locations we are shipping to. However, we are still working to finalize these numbers for the entire globe. If your pre-order includes a charge for tax or VAT during checkout, then your region has already been added.
No Tax/VAT Charged at Checkout
If you do not see a tax/VAT charge during checkout, it is because of one of the following reasons:
- your location has not yet been added to our system
- your location does not require a tax/VAT charge (this currently includes all USA states except for North Carolina, as at this time we do not meet the threshold for a nexus)
Tax/VAT Charged when Shipping is Charged
If your location is determined to require VAT/tax but you were not charged during your initial pre-order, this amount will be charged when shipping is charged.
Additionally, some countries/locations require shipping charges to be taxed or included in VAT; if this is the case for your location, you will see an additional charge for this fee when shipping is charged.

Is Born from Ice suitable for all ages? What content can players expect?
Born from Ice is crafted as an imaginative engine for Stone Age adventures, blending historical plausibility with engaging gameplay. While our aim is to foster exciting storytelling and exploration, it’s essential to address the themes and content that might arise given the setting’s historical context.
Players can expect encounters with sensitive topics informed by history and science, such as illness, physical disabilities, fears (like claustrophobia or starvation), medical treatments, death, and various forms of violence and oppression inherent to a time of insular tribalism. Additionally, the game includes the use of drugs or psychoactive substances in religious or healing contexts. (Note that this is not an exhaustive list, but rather representative of the types of content the game is likely to contain).
Given the nature of these topics, Born from Ice is recommended for players aged 13 and up, with a strong encouragement for Session 0 discussions to establish comfort levels and boundaries around potentially difficult content. The game supports nuanced emotional storytelling and complex relationship-building, offering a rich tapestry of cultural practices and beliefs from the Stone Age.
Ultimately, Born from Ice is about creating shared adventures that are respectful of the past as well as the players comfort level at the table, and to create thrilling adventures set against the backdrop of humanity’s early days. It’s a journey that requires maturity and thoughtfulness from its players, making it an adventure best suited for teenagers (or mature for their age tweens) and adults.

Will Born from Ice be available on other virtual tabletops than Roll20?
We would love to bring Born from Ice to other Virtual Tabletops (VTTs). However, at our current level of funding, we can only commit to the process of converting the game onto the Roll20 platform. Bringing it to additional platforms would require contracting additional work from experts on the various platforms, which exceeds the basic budget of the project.

Why 5e? Will Born from Ice come to other TTRPG systems?
Choosing 5e as the foundation for Born from Ice was a deliberate decision. The Dungeons & Dragons 5e system is widely recognized and appreciated for its accessibility and ease of play, making it an ideal platform for introducing a Stone Age adventure setting. Our research into prehistoric RPGs revealed a gap in the market for a 5e-based game, which Born from Ice aims to fill. The 5e system’s versatility and the vast, active community that supports it offer a solid foundation for creative adaptation, allowing us to tailor the mechanics to a prehistoric setting without magic and to emphasize survival, exploration, and the richness of human storytelling. Born from Ice seeks to leverage the strengths of 5e to provide a unique, immersive experience that is both familiar to veterans and welcoming to newcomers to tabletop RPGs.
While we’re open to exploring other systems in the future, our current focus is solely on perfecting Born from Ice within the 5e system. Our goal is to ensure that this project is the best it can be, providing a rich and immersive experience that fully utilizes the potential of 5e. We are dedicated to creating a memorable and engaging prehistoric adventure that resonates with our players and enriches the RPG community.

Will Born from Ice be compatible with the Revised D&D books releasing in 2024/2025?
As we developed Born from Ice, we were keenly aware of the ongoing OneDND playtest. We understood the importance of ensuring that our book not only aligns with the current state of 5e but is also forward-looking, capable of adapting to future developments. We’ve taken great care to design our setting and mechanics in a way that work with the 5e framework, while also anticipating the potential shifts and innovations that might come with future updates.
Looking ahead to the release of Wizards of the Coast’s Revised 5e D&D 2024 later this year, we are committed to maintaining the relevance and compatibility of Born from Ice. We will closely monitor the updates and changes introduced in the new version, and we plan to refine our book accordingly before publication. This ensures that Born from Ice will continue to offer an experience that is both true to the spirit of 5e and reflective of its latest advancements. By doing so, we aim to provide our players and the wider gaming community with a setting that remains fresh, engaging, and in step with the ever-evolving world of Dungeons & Dragons.

Can I use Born from Ice in my classroom?
Absolutely! Born from Ice offers a unique, immersive experience that can enrich your classroom. Its historical backdrop and focus on survival, tribal dynamics, and the evolution of tools provide a fascinating lens through which students can explore prehistoric human life. While it’s designed as a tabletop role-playing game, its thematic depth and educational potential make it a valuable tool for engaging students in history, anthropology, and social studies.

How does Born from Ice handle historical accuracy and cultural sensitivity?
While Born from Ice takes inspiration from real-world prehistoric research and science, it’s important to remember that it’s a work of fiction designed for entertainment. We strive to maintain a balance between historical inspiration and the creative freedom necessary for engaging gameplay. That said, we’ve done extensive research to ensure that the setting, technologies, and societal structures are plausible representations of the late Ice Age period, and everywhere possible, we lean on the science as a basis for the game mechanics, story, and setting decisions we are making.
The setting of Born from Ice is specifically the Stone Age, a period defined by early human history and not confined to any particular modern cultural or ethnic group. This era, roughly between 50,000-12,000 years ago, saw the rise of Homo sapiens as the dominant species across various regions of the world. Our representations, both in the writing and the artwork of the book, strive to reflect this broad and diverse span of human history.
We are deeply committed to avoiding stereotypes and tropes that have long plagued indigenous peoples in media and popular culture. Our goal is to depict a rich tapestry of human life during the Stone Age, focusing on a worldwide perspective rather than any specific people group. This approach allows us to explore the themes of humanity’s connection with nature, the birth of culture, and the evolution of tools without being tied to the misrepresentations often seen in other media.
To that end, the writing is based on extensive research, and we will be working with cultural and sensitivity consultants to ensure we have not inadvertently introduced elements that could be harmful. While we will not avoid presenting the often harsh and grim realities that early humans faced, we will present the people involved in authentic and fully human ways, and attempt to show all facets and perspectives around conflict and other difficult content.
In designing Born from Ice, we have taken great care to ensure that our representations are respectful, informed, and align with the game’s themes of survival, early social dynamics, and the awe-inspiring challenges of the natural world. We hope that players will find the setting and its depiction not only engaging and immersive but also respectful and considerate of the wide array of human experiences during this pivotal era in our history.

Last Updated At: 05/02/24What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
